BBQ Peaches, Pineapple and More

Texas is known for its awesome barbecue. With so many restaurant options around Austin—The Salt Lick, for instance—it's easy to understand why. But barbecue doesn't always have to mean ribs, brisket, sausage and chicken. Check out these great tasting, and healthier, grilled snacks. Trust me, I like to chow down on ribs on occassion, but I keep meals like that for a treat.

Ingredients
Peaches
Pineapple
Pears
Whatever you want to try
Potential Spices
Cinnamon
All-Spice
Nutmeg
Brown Sugar
Or whatever you like

Slice the pineapple. Halve and pit the peaches. Place them directly on the grill. When the fruit is heated through and sear lines from the grate become visible, the fruit is ready. Be careful not to grill too much, or your fruit will get mushy.

If you want to add a little zip or if the fruit isn't sweet, add cinnamon and maybe just a dash of brown sugar to the peaches. It's good stuff.

Recipe contest: share your favorite, original, healthy recipe
Since eating right is so much easier when the food tastes great, I've started a reader recipe contest. E-mail an original healthy recipe to me at garrett@gwgswims.com.

Quick and good.
My kind of healthy snack.

Cinnamon and light grilling
do the trick.
